Forum 'Bush Telegraph' Helps Update Information on Road Conditions

Date: 2007-12-20

In light of recent road closures caused by heavy rain in the Kruger National Park (KNP), SANParks online forum members have come up with an innovative way to keep each other up to date with conditions in the park.

While KNP will send through updates on the situation (which is back to normal with all roads open as of the 20 December 2007), SANParks forum members are encouraging each other to use the SANParks website forum to post up-to-date reports on the conditions they experience on their visit to KNP, as well as other parks, over the next few days.

Visitors to the park can either post these reports themselves in this forum, or sms other forum members to post reports on their behalf. This is the same technique that forum members use to send in up to the minute sightings reports, and to share their experiences of the park with forum members all over the world.

While SANParks cannot guarantee the accuracy of this information (submitted as it is by members of the public) SANParks staff will also use this channel to provide updates to the public should this be necessary over the Christmas period.

While all the roads in KNP have re-opened, conditions can change at anytime, and guests to the park are requested to confirm with the camps as to current conditions. Guests will also be advised as to alternative routes to take if necessary while in the park.

If you're in a park, or about to travel to the park, please feel free to provide updates at any time via this forum.

You can also get updates on some of the main routes to KNP from Trans African Concessions (TRAC), although they may not cover all routes to the park.
