Prior 1876 Thomas Hart established an overnight station here, at Josinkulu Drift, for black bearers who carried trade goods from Delagoa bay to Pretoriuskop. He was murdered here by gang of black robber on 10 August 1876 and buried near his trading post by friendly Swazi worrier (vide stone memorial cairn). As part of Joao Albasini’s empire, the eponymous Josinkulu was installed as the resident tribal authority. Later, the station was run by Thomas Hart, who was killed by local tribesmen after an argument over a stolen rifle. He was 22 years old.
