Excellence in the Northern Region Parks awarded at an event in Golden Gate

This according to Northern Cluster Acting Regional Manager, Johan Taljaard, who said it is an endeavour to motivate staff by awarding them with prestigious awards as a token of appreciation and acknowledgement for their Excellent Performance, and it culminate in the annual Kudu/CEO awards where the region will compete with other regions throughout the organisation.
Taljaard said these awards are just the organisation’s way of saying “we appreciate all that our employees in different parks of our region are doing.”
Over and above rewarding excellence in the region, these awards are meant to achieve the following:
- Instil a culture of achievement and excellence
- encourage excellent performance
- ensure a continuous quality service for our stakeholders
The criterion for nomination and selection was based on the individuals' business conduct, interpersonal relations with guests, performance, competencies and commitment. Regional Management had to evaluate the individual overall performance according to the prescribed criteria.
According to Taljaard, about twelve employees from each of the three parks in the region, received awards in the categories Excellence Performance in the Workplace.
Leadership award was awarded to Shongwane Corporal Willen from Marakele National Park for his exceptional leadership constantly displayed in high risk poaching environments.
The Tourism Manager at Golden Gate, Victor Mokoena, was awarded Best mentor award for always motivating his colleagues to strive towards excellence whilst Gerrit Potgieter, hotel manager at Golden Gate received an award for Innovation.
Other awards categories given were: Entrance Gate/Reception of the Year (Golden Gate Hotel and Chalets), Camp of the Year Award was given to Leokwe Camp in Mapungubwe, Best Ranger Post Award went to Tshifhiwa Mauda of Marakele, Research and Initiatives went to Yolandi Mouton of Golden Gate Highlands, Regional Managers Award went to Moses Phohlo Mofokeng (Golden Gate), Lesego Bridget Modisha (Mapungubwe) and Judas Mashimbye (Marakele).
Park of the year (Golden Gate Highlands), and Best Business Partner of the Year went to Clarens Tourism Forum, while Excellence in Customer Service Award went to Sidney Mikosi (Marakele), Aleta Limakatso Mofokeng(Golden Gate) and Dan Nkuna( Mapungubwe)
“It was an evening worth remembering, and I hope all our recipients will take this a long way, and hopefully those who did not receive anything will take this as an inspiration to receive in the upcoming events” concluded Taljaard.
