KTP Leopard: Tshidi

Unread post by lion queen »

Named after one of the 4 tribes that made up the Barolong tribe, they were the first sons of Tau

These two just south of Urikarus on 27 September at 18H10

As you can see no co-operation!!! They kept hiding away and we did not have that much time to spend with them!!!

For ID purposes Barolong's cubs:

First picture: Seleka on the left and Tshidi on the right.
Second picture: Seleka sitting up and Tshidi lying down.

So here are a few sightings to report.
The first is a sighting that Enrico had on 26th October 2kms north of the upper dune road intersection. He has allowed me to post his photos for him.

This cub is the same as one of the cubs posted by lion queen on the 2nd October (page 42). They are Barolongs current litter (mentioned by Wanderw earlier). So as i write this jacliz has provided the family portrait....what a pic   These two sightings were at the same location.

Thanks for the comments, was a wonderful sighting.
We also saw Barolong, but with out her cubs at Urikaruus on the 8th Dec, she came to drink twice.

So it's time to announce the names of Barolong's two new cubs. After discussing it with Lion Queen, Enrico and Jacliz we have decided to call them Tshidi (larger leo and the one i posted pics of on behalf of Enrico) and Seleka (smaller one).
They are named after two of Tau's (a great Barolong chief) sons. At the moment we are not sure of the leopards sex but i'm assured that they can be used for either male or females.
Lets hope they become regulars to both Urikaruus, this thread and the project.

Hi katanga! Thanks for posting your sighting! Tshidi it is!
If you can, please fill in the 'Report a Sighting' form in the link at the bottom of the post - AstroMatt needs the details for the project, even if it was on the same day. Many thanks! :D

Tshidi

Unread post by Peregrine Falcon »

We also saw this one on 5th November at 07.23 just past Rooibrak waterhole. He had a springbok (looked partially eaten so not just killed) and dragged it up the dune for around 300-400mtrs until he stashed it in a large bush. he then came outside and lay in the shade panting. Later he went back inside the bush for a while presumably eating. We had been the only car to see this so far but now others joined us. He came out again and lay licking his paws.

We understand from other posts that this is probably Tshidi. We did fill in the forms on the forum when we got home and sent Astromat an email with the details.
