KTP Leopard: Miera

Thank you Dr.Matthew for helping identify the following seen on my recent trip to Kgalagadi.

1. Miera,seen between Gemsbokplein and Auchterlonie,13th April 2016

Great sightings kynetta :dance:

We just missed seeing Baralong after seeing you guys. Well we sort of saw her through a hole in a bush under a tree eating another wild cat, but way too far away for any pic
We did however see this lady near Batalama on 10.05 at about 11am

Please can I get ids on these leopards

Great sightings Gavin!
You saw Miera on the 10 th of May, then Urinanib on the 21st of May. What was Miera doing? How long did you stay with each leopard?

We saw Miera sitting under a tree just before the waterhole. There was a car parked about 50m ahead of us which we tried to let know about the leopard.
Eventually we drove up to them and told them about the leopard.
They were watching some white backed vultures on a half eaten Gemsbok, which was really strange as there were no other predators around. Could a leopard take down something as large as a gemsbok?
We went back to Miera, who after about 5 minutes, got up, walked up to the ridge and disappeared over the top.

We saw Urinanib busy hunting and marking his territory. He walked along the top of the ridge for about 2kms before going over the top. We were with him for about
30 minutes

Gemsbok kill? I doubt that a female leopard could take down a full grown gemsbok, unless the gemsbok was very weak and sick, or the leopard was extremely lucky? :hmz:

Perhaps the gemsbok died of natural/other causes? and Miera took advantage of the carcass? Leopards are opportunistic after all. A very interesting sighting! :thumbs_up:

Urinanib - seems to be seen quite a bit in the Auob recently. Hope he doesn't meet Dakotah any time soon. :wink:
