KTP Leopard: V-Nose

Unread post by Fotomaljohan »

Named after marking on his nose

WE were in KTP (again) end December 2010, as promised somewhere earlier in this thread and although we were really hoping to see leo Kruiper or mother Maja at Samevloeiing or TR area, we were not so lucky this time arround.

However, we were blessed (and spoiled) :D :D :D by seeing Lions and Cheetahs every day and on one particular day, we saw three different lots of cheetahs between Urikaruus and Mata Mata!   (First three - one with a collar (Elena & the boys), then two and three again!)

WE were at Nossob on the 29th & 30th of December and just after 9.30pm on the 29th, my Son-in-Law, Brendon, captured these pics of the Nossop leopard at the waterhole, albeit under difficult light conditiond from the Nossob hide!

This was taken just after he chased away a Brownie!

I cropped this image to perhaps give our experts a better chance to ID him/her!
BUT note the distinct "Double Wide "V" on the upper nose between his eyes! I call him "V - Nose"

In the forum pages there is a thread: What happens at the Nossop waterhole after dark , where there are more photos of this NOSSOP leo!

Edited: Fotomaljohan's leopard - V-nose

Great sighting and thanx for posting the pix Fotomaljohan!
This is a new leopard - I suspect your leopard is a male going by your first pic and that the leopard looks quite heavy set(although at night it is quite easy to make a mistake). Could be our first Nossob male on this thread! I have looked at Jo's thread as well, it is difficult to make out the dots, but Jo suspects this one is a female, so then we have a Nossob female as well! And then there is still the Twee Rivieren female out there somewhere  , as she was relocated near Nossob in October 2010.

Re posting this here as I originally posted it in the webcams thread.

I was able to find the photo after the one he posted and identify the leopard.

This leopard is V-nose....its an amazing sighting as it is only the second record I have of him! He was last seen drinking at the waterhole on 29th December 2010!!
