Hi Bongeka,

Please could you help me.

My husband submitted 6 images for the photo competition in June 2016 and we received a reply that 6 were received but only 3 have been entered into the competition.

As they were all taken on the same trip and all criteria for entries have been met for all six entries to be valid entries please can you let me know which 3 were rejected and why?

I have sent an email to the photo comp email but I got this standard reply:

We are sorry but the competition is now closed and no more submissions will be accepted.

Please can you help me.

My husband is Capt Kirk and we apologise for this late email but we returned home from a trip last night.

Many thanks and kind regards,

I explained in the initial response by quoting from the rules of the competition, but I have responded to your email, explaining again

Hi Bongeka,

Many thanks for your prompt reply. However I have not received an email from you with an explanation. This is the email my husband got from Sanparks on 19 July which does not explain what is wrong with 3 of his photos:

Thank you for your submissions, this is to confirm that we have received 6 images into various compact categories, but we have only entered 3 because Entries must be digital images, photographed with a DSLR/ Digital Compact Camera /Smart Mobile Phone between 1 January 2015 and 31 March 2016. Scans or prints are not permitted. No one picture may be entered in more than one category. Series shots are not allowed, please submit one image from any series. You can crop images before submission, but please ensure the image quality is maintained."

As my husband is a first time participant in Sanparks Photo competitions and all criteria stated in the above email were met please can someone let us know which images were rejected and why, so that my husband knows what he is doing wrong.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Your submissions into most the categories you entered into are of the same cheetah, well at least look like the same, studying the light, I can tell that they were photographed around the same time of day too. It is a series of the same subject in different 'poses', you are only permitted to enter one image to one category. from a series. Hence "No one picture may be entered in more than one category. Series shots are not allowed, please submit one image from any series"

Hi Bongeka,

Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry but my husband did not submit any photos of cheetah - they were of leopard and they were definitely not a series!!

Please could you ask the Sanparks Photo Competition Committee to have a look at my husband's entries as there has definitely been some misunderstanding here.

Looking forward to the decision of the Photo Competition Committee.

Many thanks and kind regards.

My bad, meant leopard, according the the EXIF info on all the pictures of the leopard, they were photographed on the same day, literally 1 minute apart, the leapard is in the same place in all of them just different pose and angle, how i that not a series?

You and your husband should please check your email, I have sent you screen shots of your EXIF data with each image.

Hi Bongeka,

The definition of series is: a sequence of photos taken showing a specific action taking place e.g. a lion kill.

The two closest leopard photos are 9 minutes apart (not 1 minute) and all are taken in different places.

Please LOOK AND CHECK my husband's exif data.

Many thanks and kind regards,

From a photographic perspective, a series is not limited to what you are defining, but I think you and I need a time out, I will have someone else look at your husbands images yes?

So what is happening with the photo competition? Why on earth does it take so long with winners only to be announced end of November?
Has the finalists been chosen and voting polls started?

Some feedback to the entrants please! :hmz: :hmz: :hmz:

6. Copyright.
You must be the sole author and owner of the copyright for all images entered. By entering your images into the competition, you grant South African National Parks a non-exclusive licence to publish the images for any purpose in connection with the competition including, but not limited to, the following purposes:

Guidelines.
1.You may enter submissions for both DSLR and compact competitions but you will be restricted to 2 photos per category in each competition.
2.We have noticed that sometimes there is a bit of a confusion about the difference between the portrait and animal in a landscape orientated photo entered for the Portrait category. The basic rule is that the animal must fill the image/photo. Roughly at least 70%. Entries to the Portrait categories will not be excluded if they don't follow this but it will be one of the judging criteria.
3.Calibration and colour – for the best result please submitted images colour profiled/corrected using a correctly calibrated monitor and utilising Adobe RGB 98 colour space before submission. Entries will not be dismissed if the colour management is not according to our request. But the judges cannot be held in contempt for not accepting images of poor colour. Allowances will not be made for poorly colour managed/corrected images, in particular please ensure your images are not over saturated and faithfully represent the subject.
4.Digital adjustments are only acceptable if limited to minor cleaning work, levels, curves, colour, saturation and contrast work. The faithful representation of what you saw at the time of the shot being taken must be maintained.
Compositing and multiple exposures are not allowed. Sharpening and cropping (for instance to make a panorama-like photo) are allowed, but please ensure the image quality is maintained as they will be judged accordingly.
