Correct Dream Weaver.

I knew it as Sjambok pod (and I’ve only been in SA since 1975) and a 1997 book only calls it Sjambok pod - so guess name changed after that. So many trees and birds changed names - very confusing 🤣

I agree, Hippotragus - especially with the bird names. After all as the saying goes “a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet”.

What is a bread tree more properly known as in South Africa?

The Encephalartos genus of cycad native to Africa. Several species of Encephalartos are commonly referred to as bread trees, since bread-like starchy food can be prepared from the centre of the stem.

Sorry, not Birds eye bushes.

There are about 24 species within the family occurring in the Southern African region.
