Lesego wrote:The words of the programme director as he was giving this award:

"The Lifetime Contribution Award:

In this world, there are people who are the models for dedication and commitment. SANParks acknowledges that in order for this organisation to have reached the heights it has, there had to be pillars of strength and dedication that kept the fires burning and tonight, SANParks honours one of these special pillars whose life is intertwined with the Eastern Part of the Free State, dithabeng tsa Maluti. It is an honour for me to announce the winner of:

In this category the nominees received under this category are:

- Mr Gert Damon
- James Mokoena
- Peter Burdett
- Jonas Mujovu

FOUR DECADES OF SELFLESS SERVICE AND DEDICATION TO SANPARKS

The Brandwag hotel was officially opened in 1972 by advocate CR Swart as the only hotel managed by a system of National parks in South Africa.

Three years after its official opening in 1975, a young man who hails from the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains was employed as a room attendant at the Hotel, this was just a year before the world famous Golden Gate dinosaur eggs were found at Rooidraai. Later on he was transferred from housekeeping to impart his customer service skills in the Brandwag restaurant in 1978 which he regards a lifetime opportunity to showcase his passion and talent.

Born and bred in the Clarens district, this man used to herd his father’s cattle and goats along the fences of Golden Gate Highlands National Park. His Father, also served Golden Gate for many years in the sixties as a Golf Course attendant.

There are specific qualities, which distinguish excellence from just minimal work performance. Integrity, dedication, and punctuality are the driving force behind what defines excellent work performance in his work. His track record bears testimony that he is one in a million.

He has for many years been setting high standards for himself at work in order to be a person of integrity. While setting high standards, he never compromised his work beliefs and values. He is a person of integrity and performs to the best of his ability even when nobody is watching, because he knows it is not about who is watching, it is the principle of being truthful and productive. A lot of loyal customers of the hotel have known him as man of integrity for many decades. All his colleagues of many years talk of him as a man who would always encourage colleagues to wear their uniform with pride, today he is still a shining example to all the young and old waiters in all aspects of greatness.

He is always dedicated and his willingness to go the extra mile is unmatched. His Many are amazed when he tell them that although he has always been a waiter, he had fought fires throughout the park as previously, firefighting was never an obligation only to the rangers but to all park employees. Even then, no one ever remembered him complaining, he always looked forward to making a positive difference.

In 2013 he was awarded for Outstanding Service in the workplace in the Northern region award ceremony held in Mapungubwe, a moment to remember for this remarkable man.

Based on the above achievements, it is clear that the nominee sacrificed a lot for his work as he persistently goes an extra mile.

Ladies and gentlemen with almost tears in my eyes allow me to present to you Ntate Katiso James Mokoena of the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. "

Well done Ntate James Mokoena  :gflower:
