New boom gates in Kruger

Unread post by DinkyBird »

Off the SANParks facebook page, today:

Does anyone know why permanent booms have been erected at Sabie River high level bridge (H12) and also on Skukuza/Tshokwane road (H1-2)? Booms went up during this past week (11-16 May) Is there a plan to close this main tar route from Skukuza to Tshokwane/Satara? Lesego, can you advise if this is part of *** protection, or for some other purpose? Thanks.

Reply from Lesley (KNP):
The boom gates are part of the Intensive Protection Zone (IPZ) this allows movement to be managed efficiently. These gates will be closed after gate closing hours and will be managed by relevant Rangers in those sections. This initiative seeks to address access control and environmental crimes.
