Ebb and Flow - Fishing

Unread post by Lloyd »

Hi all

Booked for 10 days at Ebb and Flow (Wilderness) for the end of this month. Is it worth taking my fishing rod along? Are we allowed to fish in the river? If so, does anyone know what is likely to bite (besides Mozzies) and what bait is best?

PS - I also presume that I can get a fishing permit from the office ? :rtm:

Appreciate any advice.

Hi Lloyd

Please see this page:
Fishing

Fishing is allowed in the following sections of Wilderness Section of the Garden Route National Park - Leentjiesklip, Kleinkrans, Sandhoogte, Swartvlei, Eilandvlei, and Gericke’s Point.

Wishing you a wonderful time at one of my favourite Parks/camps :D

Thanks Mattys.

I had looked at that page, but not knowing the area very well, I don't quite know these places:

"Fishing is allowed in the following sections of Wilderness Section of the Garden Route National Park - Leentjiesklip, Kleinkrans, Sandhoogte, Swartvlei, Eilandvlei, and Gericke’s Point."

What I really want to know is if you can fish close to the chalets.

Thanks for your help.

Regards

I don't know if you can fish near the chalets, but will forward your query to SANParks PR, Lloyd

Hi we were there in March/April & after chatting with the staff at the fishing & tackle shops in Sedgefield determined that the best place to fish was from the railway bridge as you enter Sedgefield from the Wilderness side. My husband & son caught 7 grunters (catch & release) between them. As you enter Sedgefield on the N2, you can see the railway bridge on the left hand side. Late afternoon saw quite a few fisherman coming & going from that spot.

We unfortunately had no luck fishing from the shore at Island Lake even though we could see the fish in the water. I am also sure you can fish off the bank in front of the chalets too.

Permit can be gotten from any Post Office.

Happy Fishing!

Don't know if your query was resolved, however as a local Wilderness resident the fishing is very good in the river, with Grunter and Leervis present.
Both type of fish can be caught with lures/soft plastics.
