Hi all - been good to read about Marakele.
This little park is going to become overrun when people discover how great (and close) it is. In 2014 I was woken one night by the lions roaring as they patrolled quite close to the Tlopi tents (where I also happened to get a leopard outside the tent on a motion camera). In January this year I took a short early morning drive on the Mbidi road. Not far from the turnoff (on the opposite side of the dam), I stumbled across a male and two females........thought I would share

Thank you for all the compliments!

Laeveldkind, we saw one lion during the morning and two lions later the day. We did not see a male.

In what area would you say chances are best for lion sightings? Tlopi?

The lions are only in the Tlopi side of the park (i.e. not on the camping side), after the tunnel.

We had a wonderful lion sighting when we were staying at the Motsweri Cottage - beyond Tlopi Camp. A male lion was just outside our fence, roaring, at 5.30 in the morning! We also saw tracks on the dirt track leading to the cottage.

Thanks FinMari :) an absolute pleasure.

The pride consisted of 3 females, 1 young male, 2 sub adults and 4 little cubs. There was a lot of interaction and "talking" going on among them. It was amazing to watch.
