MZNP: Restaurant

Unread post by HeatherY »

I will be visiting Mountain Zebra for the first time and need some info on the restaurant - Quality of food, variety of menu and ballpark pricing of mains. Any info would be much appreciated.

Meandering Mouse enjoyed visiting the restaurant, HeatherY :D

We had supper there in December and it was five star all the way. The menu was creative, the food was well presented, the service was excellent. The prices were also fairly reasonable.

Our Mountain Zebra meal.

Lamb shanks, taken with my cell camera, so not the best :cam:

Just a lovely evening. Note the enthusiastic tucking in.

We went for an evening meal, so we treated ourselves to a Karoo favourite of lamb shanks. It was a similar price to most Johannesburg restaurants. I cannot remember the exact price, but the meal, for 4 adults came to about R670. That includes a bottle of red wine, 3 desserts, bottled water and coffee.

I noted that there was a very good breakfast choice and also a wide variety of choice for children.

Unfortunately there is not much on the menu for a vegetarian the same at most restaurants so I had to have those small spring rolls and samoosa's which were very nice with a plate of chips and salad. my wife who eats animals loves the food there.

Greetings All,

Thank you HeatherY for starting this topic. I am a Restaurant Manager at Mountain Zebra Restaurant. Feel free to ask any questions. I will also be posting our current Ala Carte Menu soon.

Jen wrote:If I book to stay at the Mountain Camp is it possible to go to the restaurant for dinner?

Hi Jen, you can most definately come for dinner at the restaurant. The restcamp gate closes at 18:00 during the winter months and at 19:00 during summer months. Just make sure you are in the restcamp before these times and when you are finished at the restaurant, we will arrange the restcamp gate to be opened on your way back to the mountain cottages.

Cheers

We will be back again in August - hoping the brandy pudding is still on the menu

Hi Brummie, our menu has changed since your last visit in 2007. Unfortunately the brandy pudding is not on the menu, but we serve a delicious chocolate mousse cake with orange liqueur and espresso coffee which I can recommend. Hope to see you in your upcoming visit in August!

Cheers

Re: Cradock

If you have time to do so, how about having a meal at the restaurant at the restaurant at Mountain Zebra NP, Jayefe ?
Mountain Zebra National Park is situated about 12km from the town of Cradock in the Eastern Cape. Cradock is accessible via the N10 highway and the Park is situated on the R61 between Cradock and Graaff-Reinet. There are signposts within the town of Cradock to direct you to the Park.

Great food :D and a lovely drive from the gate to get to the reception area where the restaurant is situated.
