We stayed there a few years ago (see my comments on page 1). The road then definitely required a high clearance vehicle, but not necessarily 4x4. We had a 4x4 bakkie, but I don't remember having to engage 4x4. It will be interesting to see what reply you get, Rosemary.

The cottage is lovely - right on the edge of the reserve and set in a large fenced "garden". We had a lion roaring right outside our fence one morning - much to the everyone's delight.

Hi Lemmy, received the following. Hope it helps with your planning:

The road to Motswere Guest Cottage requires a high raised vehicle or 4X4 due to sensitive soil type (winter or summer).
You also need these type of vehicles due to elephants pulling branches and leaving them on the road so one must be able to manoeuvre around these.
No trailers are allowed as one cannot reverse with a trailer when confronted by elephants, you need to turn back and seek assistance.
