Mapungubwe: Restaurant
Visitors to Mapungubwe National Park are alerted that a restaurant facility at the Interpretive Centre is finally open and operational.
The operating partner is Sefapane Lodge and Safaris who have 20 years experience in the lodge and safari industry in Limpopo.
Currently the operating hours are 07h00 to 16h00 and breakfast, lunch and take-away dinners. There is currently a comprehensive breakfast and light lunch menu and the restaurant is licensed.
In the next few weeks a curio shop, a basic supply store, a tuckshop at the Confluence, Bush Breakfasts and Braais (barbecues) are some of the additional services that will become available.
If you are camping or staying in some of the alternate accommodation in the western side of the park, would there be a demand for a mobile supply service to make certain basic supplies available – such as firewood/charcoal, braai meat and limited groceries ... and perhaps cold beer and cold drinks?

Re: Mapungubwe Restaurant
I can heartily recommend the restaurant! The food is good, the setting pleasant AND they have cell signal, which I needed for some urgent work, so brought my laptop with and the staff kindly allowed me to have a "working lunch"

Re: Updated info please
Hi Karen and Welcome!
I visited Mapungubwe in early April, which I believe is just after the interpretive centre and restaurant opened.
I did not notice any shop, but perhaps I wasn't paying proper attention.
Anyway, I wouldn't count on being able to get firewood or meat, best to bring what you'll need with.
Surprisingly, I found an excellent butcher at a petrol station in Alldays that's on the righthand side as you're heading towards the park (a largish complex with a cafe, liquor shop and more) .
The drinking water at the tented camp and at Leokwe is just fine (I didn't stay at Vehmbe, but haven't seen anything about drinking water problems in the park).
I had both breakfast and lunch at the restaurant and can recommend it.
It's the only place in the park that has cell reception and I had some urgent internet work to do, so they kindly allowed me to use the restaurant's top deck as my "bush office"
HTH Have a great trip, Mapungubwe is a fascinating place!
And while it's far from Vehmbe, don't miss the treetops walkway and hide overlooking the Limpopo, I spent a lot of rewarding time there, it has a magical atmosphere!

Mapungubwe restaurant is operating from 08h00 to 17h00 daily. They sell fire wood and charcoal. You can buy bottled water as our water at Vhembe and Limpopo Forest Tented camp is not ideal for drinking but can be used for cooking etc.
They sell meat at the restaurant but it's advisable to bring meat and buy when you are running short . The courier shop is not operating yet.

Mapungubwe's restaurant
South African National Parks (SANParks) wishes to dismiss rumours that are spreading about the closure of Mapungubwe restaurant, which is situated in the Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage site, near Musina in Limpopo. The restaurant has merely changed operators and was not closed down.
This is according to Park Manager, Fhatuwani Mugwabana, who said the concession which has been running the restaurant since 2012 indicated that they would not be continuing with the operation post June 2013.
“It is just a change in the operators, but the restaurant operations have not been compromised, and we would like to assure all our visitors that they can still get service in the restaurant.” said Mugwabana.
The restaurant’s operating hours are from 08h00 to 16h00, daily.

Re: Mapungubwe's restaurant
I was there on the 5 July and they were open. And apologising that their stock at the "Tuck shop" was very low they were waiting for deliveries coming the next day.
Maybe somebody can help I was under the impression the Tuck shop at the Viewing decks were open but no joy.... had to drive to the above restuarant. The little ones were no impressed with me as no "nammies" were available only cool drinks or the meals at the restaurant.

Mapungubwe: New operating hours Golden *** Restaurant
Golden *** Restaurant news
Date: 11th December 2013
The Golden *** restaurant, situated in Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site, will be operating under new hours from Friday, 13 December 2013. The new hours will now be 08:00 to 20:00, daily.
This according to Park Manager, Fhatuwani Mugwabana, who said the new hours are being implemented in order to accommodate those clients who drive from afar to come to the park. “Most of our clients usually arrive here late, and by the time they get here all they want is to eat and sleep, and the current hours were not accommodating them”, he said.
“We even have a revamped menu to ensure that we cater for all our clients’ needs“, concluded Mugwabana.
To experience the hospitality of the Golden *** restaurant, the sacredness of the Mapungubwe Hill and many other activities, please visit Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site. For booking contact Central Reservations at +27 12 428 9111 or email [email protected]

Re: Mapungubwe: Restaurant
Hi
With the new restaurant hours does this mean we will be allowed to have dinner in the restaurant and then drive back to our accommodation after 8pm at night?
I have tried to call the park but I cant get through on any of the following numbers 015 534-7923/24/25 - any other numbers I can try?

Hi
For anyone who is interested, I just spoke to the park reception and you are permitted to drive back to your accommodation after an evening meal at the restaurant. If stopped by a ranger you will be required to provide the receipt from your evening meal.
