I think it was a case of too few listeners leading to reduction in advertisers and escalating cost.

perhaps we could find out who presented it, and come up with a plan to get it re introduced.

Aqua, it was the brain child of Andre Walters after he left 50/50. I dont know what he is involved in today, but probably still some concervation and media related activities.

The problem in reviving it, is to convince advertisers that it would work again after the first attempt, and they are your bread and butter.

hi imax
any ideas as to how to contact them?
this was an educational programme, which was great to listen to while siting at water holes.

perhaps someone will see this thread and let us know if they do.

Did a Google search:

André Walters runs a company called EnviroWorld Productions. There are contact numbers on the home page and a "Email André Walters" link at the top of the page

a Kruger Park radio station

Unread post by Eddie29 »

Now this is only a thought but would it not be a great help if the Kruger park had a radio station that broad casted latest sightings or useful tips, animal info things like that they could be in radio contact with field rangers and other visitors that would phone in any sightings?

Now this is only a idea!

What do you think?

Good in theory - but you would then have folk driving around with radios blaring as they listen for the latest sighting, and then speeding off in that direction and causing huge tin can jams at the sighting.........

I like the idea of hints and tips, plus reminders of the rules and regulations though.

Have you read the entrance permit? Do you KNOW the Conditions of Entry?

Even just animal sounds or quizzes for the kids, you have a point about people speeding to sightings that might be a problem but maybe just some general info on camps, events or just stuff that the kruger visitor might find helpful!

This needs a lot of planning but still a good idea!

Well thats my opinion!

hi!
there was a radio station with all the info about the park that anyone might need, ie animals, birds, insects, etc.
it was closed down by the government because it was apparently too selective, and did not benfit the local community.
i believe that language was also an isssue.

And the other problem with Kruger Park radio (early to mid 1990's) was that they only had a limited number of productions which they repeated over and over . It was like watching a video of a 50/50 program repeatedly .

However it did have a nice "bush atmosphere" feel and worth listening to occasionly .

Andre Walters was one of the main presenters and the 50/50 theme was very strong - he was good but in small doses .

Alan Swerdlow (sic) produced a program about Steinackers Horse and it's swashbuckling Colonel , Ludwig van Steinacker . It closely followed the story as described in James Stevenson-Hamilton's book Story of an African Eden , with a bit of Harry Wolhuter's Memories of a Game Ranger thrown in . But it was enacted like a play with actor's reading the parts and very true to life .
