Why I "hate" Kruger
Hello.
Sorry I have been gone so long. Ive been busy.
I have, however decided its time to write something again.
Only this time i will use my rights of freedom of speech and say things as they are.
No excuses, guilt feelings or any of that. Iow- I take no prisoners.
So before i begin, just the following.
Mods. Do not remove this thread.
I am a good hacker.
To all that i might offend.
Shame. To the rest.
Eat you heart out.
Where do I start.
Every morning for the past almost 7 years i have to wake up in almost the same scenario.
The chickens in my yard going crazy as soon as there is a sign of a possibility of sunlight.
That's how my day begins.
After I done what needs to be done, i take my cancerstick and coffee to enjoy silence.
But no, the birds chatter away.
I then have to inhale that nasty clean low veld air.
So gone is my asthma.
When i braai at night my meat is being begged from my braai stand by my house cat.
As if there's not enough food in my garden.
Last week i went to pick up my daughter at school.
En route back we were caught in a traffic jam.
Because a croc caught a bushbuck.
Ok. It was last month, but it sounded nice.
The night before that, we got told that my dogs are loose.
So we go and look and only find 4 wild dogs.
So now i ask myself.
Do I really want to stay here?
Tomorrow i will tell you a few other stories.
Now I have to sleep with the sound of hyenas not too far from here.
Unlucky me

How awful
.....I really don't know how you continue to make it from day to day without
yourself.
Tell you what I'll do you a favour and swap places..... you'd love the UK midlands ...the cities, the pollution, a sparrow around if your lucky.....I'm sure of it!

Hello Wacktazz!
So sorry to hear what a dreadfully trying time you are having....and I bet all those trees growing all over the place are driving you crazy!
Im stuck with listening to nightingales tuning up outside and the sea crashing away in the background every time I open a window at night, whilst out in the garden deer are uprooting every tasty pansy I plant.
We were lucky enough to spend quite a bit of quality time on a highway this past week and I found the traffic jams quite spectacular! I believe the ones you have between KNP and JHB can be quite special to
Ill be following your sad story.

Wacktazz
Ignore CC! I have an offer you can't refuse! Can I interest you in a dusty metropolis of 1 million people, smack dab in the middle of the desert? We haven't broke 38C for a high just yet this year, so you'd have time to get used to the "dry heat". The gila monsters and rattlesnakes are in full bloom, and the dozens of cactus species are hatching their young. (or something like that)
I'd even consider an straight swap.
Good to see you posting!

Shame, no one said life is easy ..... Instead of chickens waking you, I can offer taxis continuously hooting for about 2km down the street or the municipal bus at the crack of dawn! These are great alternatives. Or the ambulance that needs to have sirens on in the middle of the night (when there are no cars in the road) screaming to the clinic 2km down.
I'm busy packing ... how soon can I move in.
PS As an additional bonus, I will leave my family here to assist you with your needs.

AH NO!!
I CANT BELIEVE I HAD TO READ THIS THIS MORNING
Why do you have to highlight how 'bad' our lives are compared to yours.....
Wilddogs, croc-action traffic etc...
How about a stupid maltese barking all night, and an hour traffic in the morning with lovely taxi's. Yeah...definately start thinking of changing your job..
Poor wacktazz... I feel for you. NOT!!!!
Enjoy every minute of your basic, hot, and miserable life.... I'll just dream of it

Walking is the best way to explore Kruger: 2x Olifants Backpack Trail (2009, 2016), 3x Mphongolo Backpack Trail (2011, 2013, 2015), 1x Mathikithi Wilderness Trail (2022).

Sheesh Tazzman, you do have a tough life.
Now let me see, would I be willing to give up:
Living accross the road from a shopping centre. I mean, I can walk to Checkers, KFC, the Pizza place, and Spur.
The smell of that food constantly washing over my place. The sounds of car alarms constantly being activated, loud music, fast cars and loud motor bikes.
A daily commute on my bicycle of 35 km through the JHB traffic, to sit in an air conditioned office, and then a commute of 35 km back home.
The sound of gun shots, police, ambulance and fire engine sirens and the sounds of helicopters flying overhead for any number of reasons.
Can I give up the sounds of dogs barking, cats fighting and the neighbours having their regular bouts of yelling and boxing.
Could I give up all this luxury and freedom, to live in a place like KNP?
In a heartbeat.

Conservation is not an option.
It's imperative.
Leave KNP alone. Go build a hotel someplace else. Reserves are for the preservation of wildlife.
Think Pink. ..

I have to agree with Wactazz, I again get the most miserable feeling seeing the entrance gate in my rear view mirror and then a roadsign indicating the speed limit being 80 or 100 km/h.

Good to hear from you again Wacktazz ... I have 4 pasties left , I had one last night that had been defrosting and maturing in the fridge for the last week - it was delicious !
When the pasties have run out I will be in the doldrums - seems I cannot make the planned trip to KNP next month - employers seem to think they will not be able to handle the workload if I am away during WC month ... how ignorant of them ....
So of course I am envious of you ...

KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

Seeing that we gave you ours, do you have any idea of the depth of stagnation and starvation we are in? We can pick up another order end June, but this time around, first things first. Ten for us, one for you, ten for us, one for you.
