Google Earth KNP detail
I was playing with Google Earth just now and noticed that large parts of the KNP are now available in reasonably high quality satellite pictures. It looks like the pictures were made late last year as the Limpopo and Luvuvhu are dry.
It's lots of fun to see the park in detail from a birds perspective

By the way, you don't need Google Earth. Google Maps will do just fine. Here is Lower Sabie.

Found Olifants, part of it is not visible in high resolution, but the most important parts are.
Olifants.
(If you want to link to a place in Google maps do not use the URL in your adressbar, but rightclick on the "Link to this page"-link, and copy that location. That will give a linkable URL.)

You almost made me happy! Almost.
If I look at Google Maps I still get partially good resolution, and partly bad, nicely shown in the view of Olifants.
But the map (drawn) is better now! You can actually see roadnumbers and some of the campnames. Biyamiti Weir is called Jock of the Bushveld.

Google Earth - KNP from the SKY!!
Hi guys,
I've been working on mapping Kruger National Park entirely on Google Earth.
It's been even more fascinating that I thought it would. In the process I realised what a different insight it gives to see places I've been to so many times before, only now from a different perspective and a more "complete" picture.
It also made me realise that there are so many places that I've never been to... or don't know anything about.
This made me decide to set a topic where I can share these images with other people and also show them what I've discovered. I expect it to take up to 5 years to completely map KNP (given the time I have available and the amount of research I have to do).... so this is my longterm project...
Please bare in mind that I haven't visited all the places personally - so if some of the information given is incorrect, please feel free to correct me.... But most of all ENJOY!!!

Re: KNP from the SKY!!
OK ... I decided to start in the North - as this is the area I (and most other people) know least about, and wanted to learn more.
First up: Pafuri Gate:
Pafuri Gate:
(GPS: 22º24’00.27”S 31º02’27.67”E)
There are 11 gates into Kruger. The "Pafuri Gate" is the Northern most access route to KNP and is 600km from Johannesburg. Follow the N1 toll road north through Tshwane (Pretoria), Polokwane (Pietersburg) and Louis Trichardt. Continue 54 km north from Louis Trichardt and turn east onto the R525. This will take you to the gate.
Pafuri is named after one of the earlier Venda chiefs in the area - Mphaphuli.
