Re: Google Maps Street View of KNP
Found an elephant here
The earth has a circumference of 40 075 km and I have to travel 17 141 km to get to the Kruger, that's just not right

Click on "Link" in the top right corner when you have what you want to share on the screen, then copy the code (copy the top one for this forum) when you are typing your message in this forum highlight one of your words (like "link" here) and when the word/s are highlighted click "URL" (just above where you are typing) and past the google map link into that box, it sounds complicated but its pretty easy

Re: KNP from the SKY!!
After a hectic couple of months I've had time to catch up on this hobby of mine - so here's the next installment of the Southern Trek:
Shisha West Waterhole
(GPS: 22°48'52.68”S 31°12'44.65”E)
Both Magamba and Shisha is situated in the Shisha river – as seasonal river running along the H1-7 that is usually dry during winter. “Shisha” means hot in Zulu. It also means “smoke” and derives from a Persian ritual of smoking with a pipe. I couldn’t confirm that Shisha West or the Shisha river derives from either, but I have my doubts about the smoking ritual, so and educated guess would be that it refers to the extreme heat in this area – not sure though…

Ok, the last 3 waterholes as you approach Babalala from the North on the H1-7 has very little to no reference in my sources... They are:
Shitangeni Waterhole
(GPS: 22°49’36.12”S 31°14'11.58”E)
Mawawi Waterhole
(GPS: 22°50'27.84”S 31°14'20.16”E)
Dokweni Waterhole

Re: KNP from the SKY!!
Right then, time to stretch those legs - we get out at Babalala.
Babalala Picnic Spot
(GPS: 22°54'19.95”S 31°15'06.27”E)
This stop is about halfway between Shingwedzi and Punda. Babalala is the Tsonga word for “name of a person who lived here in earlier days” – in other words a historical name. Here the Mopane shrubland meets the Bushwillow woodlands. The picnic spot consists of a huge sycamore fig and a waterhole.
The Northern Plains Trail also starts 12km north of Babalala and ends at Boabab Hill. Bookings can be made at Shingwedzi, and is a nice option to see a remote part of Kruger – just make sure you don’t get stuck or it’ll be daayyys before anyone finds you – just kidding – when stuck on a trail – try to extricate yourself. If you can’t.... stay in your vehicle – help will be dispatched if you don’t report back to camp.

Re: KNP from the SKY!!
Thanks Brendon - Yes I was away for a while... but I'm back. Next one:
Mavatsani Waterhole
(GPS: 22°57'33.43”S 31°15'02.65”E)
Turning off the H1-7 at Babalala head West on the S56 gravel road along the Dungile spruit. As you continue on this small detour, you’ll find Mavatsani at the crossing with the Sirheni Bush Camp entrance.

Re: KNP from the SKY!!
After looking at the last image, I realised that it is difficult to spot the exact location if it is such a small site - so I decided to upgrade the pics and add a marker indicating the exact location - I hope this will enhance the information.
Here is Mavatsani again:

Re: KNP from the SKY!!
Great topic and thanks for sharing with us, Nungu! As you know my passion is the history and this will assist with mapping of old roads and places!
Kind regards.

Re: KNP from the SKY!!
What a fantastic idea Joep. Once we get to places like Gorge camp it would be very interesting to add that. Thanks for the assistance.
Unfortunately I've been extremely busy this year and haven't had much time to continue my mapping. I've mapped up (or should I say down) to Letaba... but haven't done all my research yet... so haven't been able to post in months!!
But this thread is still alive and as soon as I can spare some time I'll get back into it

Google Earth KMZ File
Hello
I am sure like many forumites here, we are all passionate about the Kruger. One thing I have noticed, is that there is no comprehensive google earth KMZ file with the relevant waypoints.
I have started with one with the goal of making it the most comprehensive file available. But for that to happen, I need input from the rest of the forumites here. The goal is to have it categorised, in such a way, that everyone will be able to use it, you simply hide the groups not relevant to you.
Finally to have informational data in the waypoints. A good example is ratelpan hide, which although is a hide, is not the best, and at kanniedood, there is restricted parking and the best time for photography is in the afternoon, as the sun is behind you, and you need about 20min to get back to camp...
This way anyone and everyone can use it as tool.
At the moment it is incomplete, but I have made it available as a work in progress with the aim of using forumites input to hone it.
Please also pm me should you find any errors. I have gleamed of some points off some of the files I managed to find here, and recognition goes to people like madach whose waterholes I have used.
