Butterfly: African Migrant

Unread post by Johan van Rensburg »

African Migrant, Catopsilia florella, photographed early in February on the Mahonie Loop near Punda. These butterflies are South Africa’s most familiar migrating butterfly after the Brown-veined White. They are found year-round throughout South Africa. Migrations occur in summer and autumn, but most commonly in February and March.

Same thing! That is also the reason why we use scientific names! :D As this butterfly occur all over up into Northern Africa (and beyond) there are probably loads of other common names as well.

Can anyone help with the ID of this butterfly? Seen in my garden at Waylands, Darling, Western Cape, in late November 2021.
