Here is the Map of Tamboti so you can see the layout of the the tents to give you an idea of the proximity for you to make a decision.

Re: Tamboti Satellite Camp
Thanks Elsa. On a related question, I noticed last year that the luxury tents were being renovated. Does anyone know how far this has got? I saw a post in April 2018 saying that 36-40 had been done, and the rest would be done by the end of the year, ie last year. Can anyone confirm whether this has happened? thanks
Re: Tamboti Satellite Camp
Lewisman, there have not been any further upgrades to the luxury tents to date.

Re: Tamboti Satellite Camp
We had a wonderful stay in CTT 22 and we just love the wildness of the camp, my only concern is the troop of Baboons residing in the camp behind the ablutions.
We and other guests definitely heard a leopard next to the fence in the night and we all know how they love baboons, my concern is that if the Leopard gets into the camp we could have a serious situation.
My neighbour was confronted by a large male baboon when getting some fruit from his trailer early one morning and my wife was faced with one when she exited the ablutions.
Fortunately we had padlocks to lock the cages housing the fridge but they still tried to pull some packets from under the door.
Our neighbour said she had been coming to the same tent for many years but this is the first time that they have had such a problem because the baboons were on the outside before.
Coming from Cape Town we know how destructive and dangerous baboons can be, especially when grabbing food out of the hands of children and adults.
However even though the baboons followed by the monkeys were a bit of a problem the honey badger and other night animals were so lovely to see and hear during the night.
Also vultures nesting in the tree in the camp and hares just outside the gate.
For the first time we saw a caterpillar train not far from the camp.
Overall a fantastic camp lovely and clean including the ablutions, very friendly staff.
I felt quite sorry for the elderly cleaning lady pushing her cleaning equipment an new towels around in a wheel barrow, but what a lovely friendly soul she was.
All in All a lovely camp but Parks will have to do something about the baboons.

So glad you enjoyed the stay in Tamboti Dono - I agree with you about the baboons, they could become a serious problem. I guess they have chosen to sleep there because they feel safer from the leopards and also because food is more readily available. Other than that - a fantastic camp.
Tamboti Tent Camp organization
Hi,
I have two questions about Tamboti Tent Camp :
Are sheets and towels provided?
How to get to the Sunset Drive, Sunrise Drive and Morning Walk of Orpen Rest Camp? Can we take the car to go there from Tamboti camp and come back ?
Regards

Hello tgueyer and a very warm welcome to the Forum.
Tamboti Tented Camp in the Kruger National Park does provide sheets and towels for visitors.
The SANParks vehicle from Orpen will collect you at Tamboti for drives and walks. I would just as a precautionary measure mention it to the staff at Orpen reception that you will need to be collected and dropped off again prior to the activity taking place.

Hello tgueyer,
Welcome in the Forum
Yes, you will find sheets and towels. The Bed is finished when you arrive. Which Tent you have booked?
About the Drives and Walks, when you have booked it, the Rangers know that you stay in Tambotie and know they must pick you up and bring you back in the correct Camp. We had also a Morning Walk from Tambotie and all worked perfect without saying we sleep in Tambotie.
Enjoy it, you will love it

We love Tamboti camp, and even the chalets in the front on the northwestern side, are lovely -- more open and better views of the dry river bed. The afternoon sun bakes on the tents, and in winter this is lovely! Apart from baboons, there are obviously also the honey badgers that raid your bin each night. Rather scary to stand in the moonlight, or head for the loo and have a badger scurry past you in the dark!
They have had leopard and cheetah in the camp too, if you check the records.
My surprise a few years ago, was a huge, fat, broad track of a massive python that had crossed the road just where it splits at the entrance and turns left to the bird hide. It happened between sunrise drive and lunch time, so I walked through the bush around there, looking for the snake, but rather nervous of being surprised!
My wife and I love preparing food in the camp at the little kitchens -- at lunchtime it is quiet, and you can sit there on your own, enjoying the birds and a picnic meal.
After sunset we always do a perimeter walk of the camp (roads, not fence), enjoying the smells and sounds of the scops owls etc. In the dark I only walk to the loo and back, a bit more nervous.
Exciting going on early morning drives -- the gate is ALWAYS open 5 minutes before official opening time, so I stop my car, get out and savour the bush waking up, still keeping an eye open for predators, but feeling free right next to an open gate in the dim light. I stay very close to that open car door!
Hopefully we will be back there by the end of the year, God willing.
God bless,

Re: Tamboti Satellite Camp
Covid has turned our worlds upside down.
My previous post mentions a hopeful visit to Tamboti in December.
In the meantime online teaching plus other Covid risks for elderly family members have forced me to take early retirement.
So Wednesday, 8 July, God Willing, I move from Somerset West to Hoedspruit to retire in a botanical reserve... 85 km from Tamboti camp!
I wonder if I will ever stay in Tamboti again, or just do day trips?
Just the thought makes me excited!
Maybe we'll meet up there sooner than expected...
God bless,
Friedrich von Hörsten
