I wish. I am going to visit Finland and the UK in April/early May. I am watching the Corona outbreak and wondering how this is going to affect overseas travel. :hmz:

Thank you. Very helpful. So, we will book our activities while staying a Leokwe and Vhembe.

Mapungubwe: Leokwe Camp Layout

Unread post by fdbotha »

Hallo,

I am looking for a map or sketch layout of the Leokwe camp showing the numbers of the units?  The website does not have a camp map showing the layout at all.  I also need to know which units are the family cottages, and which units are the Cottage (CO2/4P) with their location.

Hi All

Is it possible to get an updated map of Mapungubwe NP? The one shown on the Sanparks page does not show the Tented Camp.

Hi TonyK I will see what I can find for you. Are you looking for a layout of the tented camp?

Morning TonyK

Attached is the version I have stored for Mapungubwe which does show the tented camp.

If it doesn't attach, I originally downloaded it from the Sanparks Mapungubwe Facebook site, so you could join the site and find it pinned at the top.

Hope this helps.

It doesn't appear to have attached.

I will try again, otherwise perhaps join the Facebook site.

Hi,
I need to book my trip and would like to get some advice on accommodation.
First thought was camping, but the Mazhou camp site seems a bit remote? (I will be on my own).
So I am looking at either Leokwe or Vhembe, or both. If anyone has stayed in Vhembe, I would love to hear about your experiences.
My stay will be 4 nights.

Also, can you visit both sides of the Park even if you stay in one side? Can you visit both sides in one day?

I am not sure if it is my laptop or the fact that is is Friday, but the Sanparks website is not playing along and the info pages do not want to open properly. :o

Thanks in advance.

Hi Karin Mitton,
I've only stayed at Leokwe and enjoyed it immensely. Vhembe seems even more remote than Mazhou. You didn't ask but if I had four nights I'd stay for three at Leokwe and one night in the western section at the Tented Camp. Visiting the Maloutswa Hide has always been the highlight of my trip to Mapungubwe. Getting to the western section from the eastern will take about a half hour via Den Staat Road. (There's road work being done on Den Staat but the bypass around it is no problem in dry weather.) And yes, both sides can be visited in one day. Have a great trip. :)

Hi Karin,

Mazhou seems remote, but it is not really and it is also quite close to the staff village situated near the nearby tented camp. The vervets are a problem though.

One can easily cover both sections of the park in one day.
