I had NO idea that Mapangubwe offered bush braais :hmz: Useful to know and would be nice if this were more generally known.

@Mods: Is there a topic about Mapangubwe bush braais that I perhaps missed?

I am not aware of any topic specifically for Mapungubwe bush braai's but unless one of the members who has participated in one chose to start one then there wouldn't necessarily be one.
Possibly mentioned in one of the trip reports?

It is stated on the website for Mapungubwe that they do them.

Activities offered

Bush Braais

Experience an unforgettable game drive ends in a dinner in the bush overlooking a dam, surrounded by burning lanterns whilst listening to the sounds of the bushveld and distant animals calling. A minimum of four and maximum of 20 persons can be accommodated, with an age limit of six years. Bush braais must be booked and confirmed a week in advance.

Welcome to the forum [email protected].

I think a bush braai is a wonderful experience from which ever camp but would say your chances of getting extra people to join would most probably be better from Lower Sabie, just from the point of it being a more popular camp.
Good luck and enjoy.

Re: Bush Braai's offered from camps - Lower Sabbie

Unread post by Romovaro »

HI

At the beginning of May we (4 adults + 3 children) will be visiting the PN kruger and during our stay in lower Sabbie we would like to book a Bush Braai. The "problem" is that we go with 3 children of 8, 8 and 6 years old. Do you know if there is a minimum age for this activity? Is it recommended for children? And is there an option for gluten-free menu?

Any idea about the current rates?

Thanks

I think it comes down to a safety concern as one sits outdoors in a designated area but I think your best bet would be to contact Lower Sabie directly and make enquiries re the children and the menu options.
If I remember correctly the price is in the region of R850

Thanks for your quick response. Yes, my concern is the "safety part"... I will contact Lower sabbie. thanks.

Bush breakfast and bush braii - do camps still do these?

Unread post by africaseed »

Do camps still provide bush breakfasts and bush braiis upon request? I'll reach out to a few camps (olifants, talamati, biyamit and bateleur) next week to inquire but curious to see if anyone has engaged in this activity recently as ive seen a couple of posts that mentioned some camps don't provide this activity anymore due to poaching :x

Kind regards,
Bradley

Hello and Welcome africaseed,

please have also a look in this topic here Bush Braais

The best way is to send an E-Mail to the Camps. Im not sure are doing Talamati, Biyamiti or Bateleur Bush Braais.

We had one in Satara and it was absolute perfect :gflower:

Hello! :) We are a group of 4 adults who will be visiting KNP in December. We will be staying at Skukuza, Lower Sabie and Satara and we are interested in the bush braai. Wondering which camp will you recommend us to go for the bush braai? And do we just have to email the respective camp to book the braai?

Thank you in advance!

Hi skytraveller, welcome to the forums.

If you have read through from the beginning of this thread you will realise that it might be a good idea to contact each camp and see whether they can accommodate your dates. They can give you prices and current conditions etc.

In December there is a greater chance of a braai being postponed or cancelled as it is the rainy season and the weather may not play along with your plans.

I have been on one bush braai in Kruger, from Satara, and it was a wonderful experience .

I do hope you will enjoy your visit to Kruger.

Welcome to the forum Thorne.

I did look at the board outside reception when we were there a couple of weeks ago and if my memory serves me correctly it was somewhere in the mid R800's pp.
Sorry I can't be more precise but I'm sure you will have another wonderful bush braai.

Thanks Elsa that is very helpful. Just trying to budget for our trip so an approx cost helps. I’m sure we will find the money from somewhere. When we were on our last one we all said you couldn’t pay enough for this experience. We had a herd of elephant passing through the bush and could here the grumbling tummy noise they make at night while they are on the move. It was soooo exciting
