Hi. I have been to neither of these parks and I need some travel advice.
My plan is to drive from an overnight in Bela Bela to Marakele. This will mean that we get there in time for an afternoon of sightseeing. Plan to stay in Tlopi tented camp for two nights. Using a sedan hire car.
I am thinking of then leaving Marakele after a sunrise game drive and then trying to get to Mapungubwe in one day to stay in Leokwe camp for two nights. Obviously by the time I get there I won't have much daylight. I plan on two nights there.
Then we plan on heading east for two nights in Tschipise Forever resort and then onto into KNP via Pafuri gate.
I assume the only viable route is back to Bela Bela and then up the N1 to Musina and then head west.
Is this itinerary suitable? I see Google recommends a totally different route (R510, R572) that skirts the Botswana border and then heads up to the park from Alldays. From what I have read the route from Alldays up the R521 is bad.

You should be able to get from Marakele to Mapungubwe quite comfortably in a day, but on the N1. We were in Mapungubwe recently and spoke to people who came up Google's route and said to us "Don't". It's not in good condition at all.
I posted a report on the roads on the Mapungubwe: Getting There thread if you care to have a look at that.
As Mapungubwe is far to drive, I would take your two Tshipise days and tack them on to the Map booking, it deserves more than just two nights. The Limpopo Forest Tented camp is also nice to stay at. Driving from Map to Kruger via Pafuri can be done in a day.

I have decided to overnight in Louis Trichardt. This will mean that we can have a more relaxing morning in Marakele and then, on the next day we can get to Mapungubwe early, so as to get far more time there. We plan on one night in Tschipse Forever resort. Then Shingwedzi and on southwards.
