Hello Fellow Forumites,
For years a concern of mine was the preservation of the Baobabs. They were slowly being destroyed by Elephants. On our visit this year we were pleased to see that SANParks has started to protect the trunks of some of the Baobabs with wire fencing. Too late for some of the trees but a stop to the destruction of the others.
A trip to Mapungubwe is never complete without a visit to my favorite hide...Maloutswa. If you want close-up photos of Elephants, this is where to go.
The Elephants might even be a little too close to the Hide. The water source is next to the base of the Hide and the Ellies know where the freshest water is so they crowd around the source. You almost have to lean out of the Hide to get a good photo below.
When the Elephants finished drinking and frolicking, they had no sooner departed when another group came to enjoy the water.
While at Mapungubwe, we went on a Night Drive. In the past, we had to drive to the Reception area to meet with the Game Drive vehicle. This time the vehicle conveniently came to pick us up. There were two separate Leopard sightings on the Drive.
Wonderful accommodations, sightings and Hide.
Kudos to Mapungubwe

The bird doesn't sing because it has answers, it sings because it has a song.
