The Ultimate Companion for Birding

The Ultimate Companion for Birding in Southern Africa - 2 Volume Set -Gin & Mcilleron

Thinking of getting this as an Xmas present to myself.
It is quite pricey, but the photography looks excellent.

Does anyone have this?
Is it worth having ?

I forgot I hadn’t commented on this......

Really a fantastic publication. The 2 volumes of over 800 pages covers the majority of the birds found in Southern Africa
Each species has a dedicated page, with a photo or two, distribution map, and general discussion. At the end of each entry is also a brief summary of : status, habitat, voice & breeding

The publication is quite expensive.
But well worth it in my opinion.

Some initial impressions to add to what Yoda has written.

This is a big heavy book – not something you are going to want to be packing for your travels.
100% of the profits go to The Unlimited Child, a non-profit organisation that focuses on early childhood development in underprivileged crèches.
The photographs are truly spectacular which is not surprising when you see the names of the wild life photographers involved.
This is not a book intended for identification purposes. Apart from the size, the photographs are not there to illustrate differences in colour morphs, m/f, adult/juvenile etc.
The text has been written by number of well known experts. It is full of interesting information presented in an easy reading style.
