Hi Everyone.

Will update the August list tonight or tomorrow night. Just come back from a 2 week trip to Kruger and had a awesome birding experience. Got 10 lifers.... still need to update my list but I think I have got 350 now!

Had a fantastic lifer just north of Letaba in the form of a Temmicks Courser. Will do a proper trip report on the weekend!
Stiffneck on the loose.....

My total now is 536 after adding Cape Gannet to my list on Saturday during a trip to Macassar Water Works.

I joined TG as he led a trip for the Somerset West bird Club and for this small site we managed to list 97 species for the morning. My combined list for the last to trips to this site is 99.

Hi guys,

We were fortunate enough to travel northern Namibia in August where we saw 42 NEW birds which pushed our life list up to 418!

Regards
Maddy

PS I'm not new to the forum - just didn't have much to say in the past 5 years!

Recently I received a great gift,- Sasol's book of birds!
I prompted this gift, for where we live, there are so many
different bird species flying about! I found a need to take
this a bit more serious.

There is a common belief that birds only sit in a trees!!!

Well,.. I wonder???

Is it neccessary to prove a sighting or is it just taken for
granted to be true? Either way I will still take part and
face a daunting task. How do you other stiffnecks do it?

Armed with a permanent marker and newly aquired book
set of into the bush and at a sighting take the marking
pen and draw a cross over the picture of the bird seen???,
in your newly acquired coffee table book.

Good Day H.erectus.

Yes well it is up to you really. You are doing the list for your self. I could not live with myself if I can't ID the bird but put it on my list! But everyone does it differently. It is the ethics debate...?! I have a excel list at home and then I add the birds there when I come back from a field trip, with my written list.

But yes if you say you have seen 100 species I put you down on 100!

Thanks Ferd for the reply, and yes why not for once can something be
done purely on a ethical basis??
I will practise what you mentioned re:- a list of your own.

It is so easy to sit back and tick off in the book seen,.....tick, seen,..
....tick. Suddenly I find myself supper aware of all the birds around me.

Took time out weekend past and went for a stroll to the river. Stumbled into a very pretty and well defined Cape Longclaw. Prettier than the one
in the book.
Have listed many other birds prior but we'll make this one the first officially.
