KNP - Far More than the Big 5

Unread post by Yoda »

The Kruger National Park - Far more than the Big 5. A Waypoint Journey by Tony Roocroft

I have an opportunity to buy a copy of this book.
But it is expensive £75 (approx. R1,350 )

Does anyone have it?
Is it worth it?
What type of book is it - scientific, coffee table etc?

Any input appreciated.

Thanks

I googled the author and found a few links on the book. There is a review on that online store named after a rainforest.

Thanks Karin.
It seems to be one of those "best routes" books

The SO managed to track down a copy of this for me for Xmas.

What a huge disappointment.
Firstly, it is very expensive for print on demand. The paper / print quality is not in line with the cost.

The book itself is essentially a trip report of the author. He writes in the first person describing certain drives he did, with a small highlighted section of map, and some wildlife photos. I get the feeling some of these roads he only covered once. In between a section, is a page or two of basic information - info on wildlife or Kruger history, camps etc.

On the positive side, there are some good photos, and some of the info is interesting.

I would say that this is good for a Kruger newbie
But a waste for Kruger old hands

After much deliberation I have returned the book and got a refund.
The online seller was very understanding.

If it was half the price, or less, I would have kept it.
But as per my comments above, I didn’t feel it was a good publication
