Most disheartening to read that the photo competion, previously open to all forum members, is now restricted:
In the past there have been excellent entries from both the many overseas forum members and at least some under 18. IMO this photo competition has become less and less 'inclusive' and relevant.
The Competition is open for entry by all South African residents of 18 years and older with a valid South African identity document.

It's just a pity that International entries are excluded as it won't be a full representation of what was seen in the National Parks. I hold thumbs for some of my South African friends thinking about which photo to enter!
Most photographic competitions have rules that exclude some one or the other, nothing new, but I would've liked a category open to ALL visitors, not only locals. No I'm not from somewhere - I hold a South African ID - I just have International friends too with really good photography skills.

This is very disheartening for us from abroad. I was so thrilled to win 6 nights free accommodation a couple of years ago. Winning a car will be nice for someone but why have such an expensive prize that non SA nationals can not win? By the way if I had won the car I could have stored it in SA and used it for my trips, once or twice a year. No need to export it at all. Its one of those times when you feel a second class world citizen being excluded. It was so much fun seeing who got picked for the final judging and seeing my own photographs there three years in a row. . Sad. Penolva

My OH has been shortlisted three years in a row, but I guess that is the end, as we are Uk citizens
The competition will be all the poorer for this decision IMHO

Below taken from the competition info:
Photo Specifications:
Submit only High Resolution (HR) JPEG images. Compact- and mobile phone cameras should be set to their highest possible resolution.
Please name your photo(s) as per the following:
dslr or compact.category.name.surname.jpg
If entering more than one image into a category: dslr or compact.category.name.surname.1.jpg (specify the image number)
Example: an entry into the compact lifestyle category should be named: compact.lifestyle.sipho.dlamini.jpg or compact.lifestyle.sipho.dlamini.2.jpg (depending on how many images entered).
My question : What size(MB) must the photo submitted be, and what length is the longest side of the photo allowed to be?
TIA!

Gmail has an attachment limit of 25MB. The average entry size is 3 - 8MB.

Very, very disappointed that this competition is only open to SA nationals.
International guests contribute greatly to SanParks, especially financially, and to be excluded makes one think that we are second rate visitors,in the parks.
Perhaps there should be a separate competition, but of course there is one,BBC wildlife photographer of the year, which is open to all, INCLUDING South Africans.
A disgruntled Afriphile.

So now that the competition is closed what's the next step? When can we expect to see or hear something, very excited to see some of the entries and hear if any of mine are in the running
