Hi Lizet - yup the new 2x certainly rocks!
With my 300mm f2.8 L IS USM it's obviously sharper at f7.1 and f8.0 than at f5.6 (being a 600mm f5.6 with converter), but it's plenty sharp at f5.6 and AF speed is good, albeit slower than with the 1.4x TC-II.

That being said/shown, I have not had the chance to really test it out on smaller, faster birds :hmz: though I think it should perform admirably, IMHO the AF is as fast or even slightly better than what I get out of my 100-400mm :wink: .

And lastly, here is a test shot of a sacred ibis on a perch, with an accompanying 100% crop out-of-camera to show detail wide open at f5.6 when used with my 300mm f2.8 L IS USM lens.
