The history of other Parks (not Kruger National Park) and their adjacent areas (OQ)

Unread post by Grantmissy »

The Mountain Zebra National Park is situated about 12km from the town of Cradock in the Eastern Cape. A well-known South African cartoon artist was born in Cradock in 1905. He enjoyed portraying animals as having human personalities and qualities. One of his works entitled “Adoons-Hulle” related the experiences of a Baboon family. Baboons are well known animals found in many of the SA National Parks, if not all.

Who was the South African cartoon artist that was born in Cradock near the Mountain Zebra National Park in 1905?

Yes Mischief :D you are correct    It is indeed the late T.O Honiball.

The fortunes of this small town were built on the trading store established by a Mr Tomlinson after purchasing a portion of the farm Stinkkuil from a local farmer in 1860. After his death the Sher family purchased the trading store, building it into a successful enterprise servicing the needs of the farming community. The most famous family member is Sir Anthony Sher, author of a well-known South African book.

What is the name of the town that fits the above? And

Close to which SA National Park is this small town?
“Whether it's the best of times or the worst of times, it's the only time we've got.”

The name of the town close to the Tankwa Karoo National Park is Middelpos

A new one:

Close to one of the SA National Parks is a town which name probably or not so probably means "place of the raging cow" . But more popular is the theory that the name of this town means "poor pasture". At this town a Battle took place on 4 February 1915. It was a skirmish for control of two river fords over a major River between contingents of a German invasion force and South African armed forces. In 1912 building operations on a hydro-electric power station and turbine started and this power station was ultimately built to look like an Egyptian temple.

What is the name of the South African town that fits the above and;

Which SA National Park is close to this town?

How far is this town from the SA National Park?

You are travelling to a SA National Park. You are less than 100km from the Park. Before travelling to the entrance gate of this Park, you decide to stop for coffee. At a place where, should you listen carefully you may well hear the mournful notes of a Scottish piper breaking the total and haunting silence that engulfs you. You are now where long ago the Boers had dug trenches at the base of the hills and the flat trajectory of their Mauser rifles raked the advancing British troops. The soldiers of Scotland's Highland Brigade who survived the rifle fire were pinned down on the battlefield in the heat of the day …

1) Which SA National Park are you visiting?
2) Where did you stop whilst on route to this SA National Park?
3) What Battle took place at this site?

Vinkie
My answers were slightly different but essentially has to do with Table Mountain National Park...which is exactly the Sanparks I was referring to.

1. Antonio de Saldanha also gave TM the name Taboa do Cabo....Table of the Cape
2. Table Mountain National Park
3. Official inauguration ( crowning) of Table Mountain as one of the New 7 Wonders
of the World
4. Rock hyrax ( Dassie)

Well done Vinkie   :gflower:
