Reporting of snared/injured animals.

Unread post by Elsa »

We often get asked by members how and who to contact when coming across animals who have been injured or caught in snares in the park.
The injuries might be caused by natural means, ie fighting, disease or man made, being hit by a vehicle, snared or could be unknown, where one didn't see the incident but just came across an injured animal.

The correct procedure to follow is to first ascertain the number of the road, even the GPS co-ordinates if possible and as much information as to the nature of the injury as you can see and call the emergency number listed in your entry document immediately or as soon as you have cell signal.

013 735 4064 - 013 735 0197 - 076 801 9679. and nobody else.

This department knows exactly who to notify to effectively deal with the reported problem and to ensure it will be dealt with efficiently and affectedly.
Other avenues only delay responses or get no response.

This number can also be used for any other emergency you encounter, be it car problems, suspicious vehicles, speeding, visitors/staff breaking the rules of the park etc.

How snared animals are attended to:
Take time each day to be with nature

An example of the importance of reporting through the correct channels as requested by SANParks.

All good, no hitches and great feedback in no time

Reporting the correct way as shared on FB...it works :D
