Thanks to Danie for the history of the Orpen cam posted on facebook:

The waterhole above in the picture was indeed the first location of the Orpen Webcam because of the natural look of the waterhole. If it didn't rain enough, water was artificially provided to it to maintain the water level. Concentration of animals over time around the old watering hole started to cause some unnatural erosion and we (with the assistance of the Section Ranger in the area) decided to move the camera position to the concrete waterhole just adjacent to the natural waterhole and discontinue the artifial way of filling the old watering hole. The concrete pool which is the current location of the cam has been there all the time (it is just out of view to the left in the picture above). The camera and floodlight was indeed moved a few metres to the current location. I hope this answers the question!

This is shocking DinkyBird! Very sad, but let's hope and pray for normal rainfall next summer. It will take years for the veld to recover I think.

I remember that first Orpan Cam.
It's the reason I stumbled onto the Forum. I googled Wildlife webcams......and the rest they say is history.

Current situation is shocking.
Hopefully there will be some early spring rains.
