hi Malealea, I am no expert on the subject but I have read somewhere recently (trying to remember which book / article :? ) that there are no reliable records on file where wild dogs have attacked a human.
To answer your second question Lions Leopards and Hyeana are recognised killers of Wild Dog. However there are cases where the WD has got the better of Leopard and Hyeana. For further info on this subject I suggest you read Trevor Carnaby's book titled 'Beat About The Bush' which has interesting articles on all the main predators.

We had a magnificent sighting on 12 December 2009 on the S25 ... We could count 21, but were later told there are 26 dogs in the pack

One of the most elusive animals in KNP. They are extremely mobile, and so one needs to keep on looking and trust in your luck.

But there are areas where you have a better chance and some where you have less of a chance of spotting them.

The areas with a better chance are the areas which people tend to think are not that good for game viewing, because there are lower numbers of animals such as zebra and blue wildebeest.

There are areas where your chances are smaller: These are often the grassland areas of KNP. The reason why wild dog avoid these areas is simple: Lion. Lion are the wild dogs biggest threat, and number one reason for wild dog deaths. Large numbers of prey animals, supported by the grasslands, supports a bigger lion population. Wild dogs avoid areas with high lion numbers.

Very generally speaking the western half of the park is better. Areas such as Berg-en-Dal, Afsaal and Pretoriuskop, would give better odds on seeing wild dog.

Hi!

On Sat 9 Jan we came across some wild dog about 6km from Skukuza on the road to Lower Sabie. We think there were 4 dogs....was quite difficult to see them as there was a lot of bush right next to the road that you had to look through/around/under/over to see them.......but we were over the moon to see them anyway!!!!!

We saw them 3 times. all on the H3 BD road to Afsaal.
Just keep on trying you will find them dont stop trying.
But the best place i think is BD. I was looking for them for 15 years found them the Dec 3 times and on the, the day we left the 2010-01-01. Saw them playing in dry river bed.
Dont STOP trying!!!!!!

Was in the Park all of last week, and saw the pack of 8 dogs that Riaan mentioned on 11/01 on the Skukuza-LS road at about 7:15 in the morning.
When I travelled this road again in the afternoon, they were still there on the side of the road.
Was very blessed to see them, and they were squabbling about the last remains of what was probably a young impala.

Seems to me that the best places to see them is in the south, but I have seen a pack of about 12 just north of Tshokwane. And know of the pack that Sprocky mentioned, went looking for them but Sprocky hid them away :D so did not get to see them.

Also hope you are reading the Wild Dog thread, it will give you more ideas of where they are sighted. On that thread you will see that some forumites also saw the same pack Riaan and I saw, but a few days earlier, so I reckon that is a hotspot for them.

Thought I would share my luck!! Taken December 2009

2km after the S126 t-junction to the S36 on our way to Orpen we came across around 22 Wild Dogs being given the run around by some angry Zebra. The Wild dogs were spread around in several smaller packs trying to get some shade, but the Zebra's just would not have it and kept on chasing them around.
