the road between Afsaal and the Delaporte dam is a very, very nice road for both dogs and cheetahs.
I've seen more of them on the way to Afsaal in a years time than anything else.
Image
These cheetahs hung around klippspringer koppie (T junction on PK-Skz road from BnD. totaling 7, a brilliant sighting
Image
Two at shitlehave- also seen many many times

So, although its a privilege to tour the park , sometimes its the small things that makes it worthwhile.
The rest is a bonus

But, in reserves, we should be fine? So, the cheetah will still be around for a long while, hopefully.

Very important for everyone to educate the world about cheetah!!! They are indeed threatened by extintion, currently classified as vulnerable on the CITES Red Data List! They do have a bottleneck in their DNA,but through programs like the De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Trust' Wild Cheetah Program their is an attempt to widen the generic field!!!

Great Photos everybody, I've been really lucky with Cheetah, seeing them almost every time i've been to Kruger. Last year June I was lucky enough to see a kill, my first kill of any kind in KNP, especially lucky for it to be cheetah though.

Below are the photos from start to finish. When we arrived the cheetah were lying low in the grass out of sight but somebody told us they were there so decided to wait and it was probably about 45 mins before they got up and started to walk diagonally towards us, getting closer all the time.

They would hop up on anthills as they went and were clearly focused on something although we couldn't see what it was yet.

They crossed the road in front of us but only the leading one of the three seemed really interested and the other two kind of lagged behind.

The one in front started to jog and then suddenly just took off!!!

The first warthog you see in the photos is not actually the one he is chasing and only after he disappeared and reappeared behind that bush can you see his target and how close he was to it.

It was all over so fast and the other two brothers jogged in for an easy meal. It was amazing to see how quickly it all happened and how quickly they wolfed down the food.

A jackal appeared on the scene and one of the cats chased him up to the road again and you can see how fat he is, then as quickly as it all happened they disappeared for good!

The sighting of my life so far!! thank goodness I had my camera ready :cam:

Pikasso recommend to post several cheetah pictures taken last year, in August, between Crocodile Bridge and Lower Sabie.

I can see a cheetah female with 4 little during 20 minutes.

sorry for the bad quality but my camera was broken because of the dust

Speedy cheetahs put through paces

Scientists are attempting to discover exactly what makes cheetahs the fastest running animals on the planet.
A Royal Veterinary College (RVC) team is using high-speed cameras and a sensitive track to monitor the big cats as they sprint.
Cheetahs can reach speeds of at least 104km/h (64mph) and they can achieve their top speed in just a few paces.
The study is being carried out with North African cheetahs from ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.

On March 11, 2008 when I was driving from Lower Sabie to Tshokwane on the H10, appr. 1 km from Lower Sabie, a cheetah with three cubs crossed the road. Unfortunately the cubs dived into the long grass and were not longer visable. However, the cheetah lady climbed a tree and watched the area. Here are a few pics. Enjoy!

Injured cheetah

Unread post by skywalker2251 » Wed Dec 09, 2009 9:57 pm

I just returned from a couple weeks in Kruger.

While I was in Satara there were a two cheetah that were always found on the H7 by the junction of the S36 and Timbavati road. Unfortunately, one of the cheetah was badly injured. One of his hind legs was injured and he was limping badly.

Does anyone have an update? Last I saw them was around Dec 1.

:yaya: Skywalker,

The Ratpack saw them in end of January sometime when we went out on a night drive. They are 2 brothers that walk or walked together but havent seem them or heard of them for some time now and Ive been there 7 times since. Would be nice to hear whether the 2 of them is still going strong.

We saw them exactly there as far back as 2006.

My hunch is that the 'well' brother will do the hunting and the 'sick' brother will either get better or sooner or later fall prey to something bigger if he cannot get away in time.
