Origin of Name: Named for the Hlanganini Spruit (meaning “at the reeds”) where he was first seen. This spruit has its confluence with the Letaba River at Letaba Rest Camp.
Range: Olifants/Letaba

Dont suppose anyone can identify this rather large bull? We came across him on his own on one of the dirt roads to Engelhard damn back in december 2004:

Yes, he's definitely Hlanganini. He is easily identified by the fact that the bottom part of his left earlobe is missing, which your photo clearly shows. Great pics, by the way! You were very fortunate to see him.

Thankyou. Yes when we came across him although we didnt know who he was, we knew it was a special sighting :) I also have a couple of minutes of video footage of him throwing sand over himself and generaly looking impressive, but its about 18mb and I think the dial-up'ers would lynch me ;)

My pictures of Hlanganini taken in April 2008... :D :D I went to Letaba and Kirsty identified him as half his earlobe is gone...so nice to speak to someone who knows all of them..

We think it could be Hlanganni. Can anyone confirm the identity, sorry the photo is a little blurred.

They are taken just north of Letaba.
There are more. I wanted to enter them but the lady at the museum said there is no competition this year. any info?

I saw him around march this year. He stayed with us for a good 10 minutes.
Does anyone know what his rank is? Like top 20 etc?

What's wrong with these guys?!?!? Don't they realise those tusks are sacred and that they, as members of the New Emerging Tusker Association have been chosen to carry and display these tusks, but above all to protect them? SHEESH :mrgreen:
