Travel Africa

Unread post by acekam » Sun Nov 04, 2007 11:32 pm

This is a quarterly magazine based and published in the UK which I have recently discovered and would highly recommend. Obviously from the name it is primarily focussed on travel, but has good articles on wildlife, conservation, culture, photography, etc. It probably falls somewhere between Africa Geographic and Getaway.

For one of the most intelligent articles on KNP ever put into print, pick up the latest edition of Travel Africa magazine (Edition 43, Summer 2008). The article is not a blinkered rosy-tinted view of the park, but it does also address Kruger's critics head-on. Mostly, its a kick up the backside for the those-were-the-days brigade, summed up in the simple line : "it is big enough to be whatever you want it to be."

I've also just finished reading that article and I was really struck that it's conclusions echoed my own feelings about Kruger, apart from probably the concessions.

As it's a UK published magazine I'm not sure it's available in SA but well worth looking out for.

@ Saraf. This magazine is available in SA as I've just bought in my local bookstore.

The article makes some very good points and is well worth reading

You can also read much of the article on the website of Travel Africa Magazine at www.travelafricamag.com/

Sad, but true what is being said about the Kruger.

"SA's most precious national asset is riddled with contradictions: on the one hand, one of Africa's greatest wildlife experiences; on the other, mass-market tourism at it's vulgar worst. Not surprisingly, the park divides opinion like no other ..."
