That's why it is so important to add your name to the "Where will I see YRs" thread.
Kruger has it's own, and there is one for non KNP visits!!

We have not seen many YRs on the open road, but have met loads in the camps, or arranged to meet at picnic sites etc...............get your name down!!!!

Okie, you are definitely right...........we see few actual yellow ribbons on the open roads up north, but I check the YR page, and if I can make a plan to meet up with other forumites, we do.

Last year we met, EJ, Chirinda, Normana and Torticat, WendyA & Heksie, CarolV and SO, Bushmom and her 2 babies, Mads, Vlakvarkvrou, Petra and SO, Flying Cheetah, Davenjan, Cheetah2111, Micetta and SO, Elsa and Klystron, Porridge and JaxiDean, and Darren and Garren. We were due to meet Meandering Mouse, but I was poorly and had to cancel!!!

Sadly we will probably always miss you, as we are there each year from the end of November to the beginning of May. :wall: :wall:

Will be interested to hear who you meet up with this year!!

Sometimes, even though we try and make it spotable, I found that our YR wasn't easy to see. We had one atop the car aerial and the driver side side mirror.

I recon I'm going to unwind an entire 5m cord of yellow Ribbon on the Driver wing mirror for December.

Or like me Riaanf31 ... You could always wear one in your hair

THis was yet another succesful mite trip for me, we stayed 3 nights at Lower Sabie and found out earlier that two mites would be in the surrounding areas... So contacted them and had a braai every night with Leachy and then Sunday afternoon had a lekker braai at Skuks with Bushcraft...
but a surprise was our second morning whilst drinking MMC in camp and I saw this one girl in the communal kitchen and she looked very familiar... so I took an empty coffee mug to the kitchen to do some investigation... and guess what? It is Bushbaby30. We had a morning chat until mum came to fetch me as it was already past gate opening times and we are never late for the Gate

I say guys do look in this link http://www.sanparks.org/forums/viewtopic.php?style=2&f=69&t=33456 and then maybe send a pm to some of the mites you want to meet...

We flew yellow ribbons throughout Mokala and KNP. Only saw 4. Met Dellac & SO, annieowl, skip, & Barry & Hilda with his huge scarf. Heritagearts introduced herself & acquired a yellow ribbon from us. It was such great fun meeting all those wonderful people and others who asked what they are for.

With NetEk on this one .. Is nice to hear the sound of your yellow ribbon fluttering in the
wind  .. Mind you sometimes we don't seem to go fast enough to get ours
moving  .. I was flying my posh yellow bow & ribbon but think I may copy Barryels
& Hilda and get a HUGE yellow scarf   ..

NetEk, I googlelated the net and couldn't find a pattern, so had to ask around and got one mirror sock from a friend. (It was a huge seller I think in 2010) and then bought material and used the other mirror sock as a guide. Sorry I can't help you more but I do believ that there are other sewing experts that might help with this one. :w:

pops - I was in KNP from 7th - 15th October (Punda Maria, Letaba and Satara) and only saw one other yellow ribbon - Hilda and barryels. At Punda Maria, rodgerh came up to me and introduced himself - he saw my yellow ribbon.

Either people are not Forumites or, if they are, they either do not know about the yellow ribbon or choose not to display it.

Over the years, I have met several Forumites and enjoyed putting faces to names.

moobox,
put a ribbon on your side mirror that other forum mites could identify you and introduce them self.
The best I saw was 4 different colors Yellow this forum, green another forum, black in support of the Rhino and red a birder.
But I must warn you; people might asked you;
- why the ribbon is the car a present from somebody?
- another forum member will ask you, without showing his ribbon "who are you" and you new in the game will reply with your real name and surname thinking this person is nuts.
Meantime he wants to know your forum name.
- You alway's see it to late when a car passes you.
But fly it it 's worth it.

I saw one yellow scarf on the mirror of a gold bakkie in the shady parking by the shop at Skukuza on Weds 9 October around midday, but the mites were not with the bakkie. :(

I have had mites introducing themselves when they were not flying a yellow ribbon themselves, and people with yellow ribbons driving past even though I could see they had seen my ribbon, but didn't stop to greet.

The funniest was a German man who wanted to know if the red and yellow ribbons were something to do with Germany even though the black was missing. :D

Val, I'll get you some yellow ribbon. We have a very nice fabric shop nearby and they stock a good range of ribbons.

I nearly forgot my ribbon in June but luckily the crazy store in Polokwane stocks "florist ribbon" and bought about 2 meters now I'm stocked forever as it stays in the car at all times.....

But I still didn't see any ribbons flying in Map on that trip and also don't see any mites on the list for december when we are back again. :(

Maybe I need to start campaning for Mapungubwe that we get more mites out that way (it's the only park I really visit....... :( )
