I think its probably some unrelated males joining up with a couple of siblings. I don't know if a litter of 6 cubs would survive in a high-density predator area such as Kruger. But you never know...

Dear Ifubesi

I spoke to the Section Ranger in that area who also agreed that he once saw them. He is of the opinion that it is a mother with five nearly full grown cubs.

Thanks for the update StephensL! :) I will pass on the info to my family who saw them. It would be interesting to hear what happens to all the cubs. But it surely must be a remarkable mother cheetah to raise 5 cubs in that area!

I think it is remarkable in ANY area.

 Looks like conditions are favourable for large cheetah litters.

Found this collared cheetah about 1.5Km downstream from Shingwedzi in the river bed - anybody an idea as to the collar?

it's, I think, a female, the collar is a radio collar to follow this Cheetah, to study, like it was until 2 years ago in the Kgalagadi
but I don't who is studying Cheetahs in Kruger :hmz:

Cheetah on S3 Albasini road

Unread post by shaheen » Thu Jun 20, 2013 3:14 pm

Hi All...
On my recent 2 trips i came across the same cheetah on the S3 on the road.
On Monday we were about to exit Phabeni gate when I told my SO lets go down the S3 and exit Numbi to see if can find 'our' cheetah.
On our last visit we found it close to the S1, this time we searched and searched and at the S3/S7 intersection we came across this
Image
and after a few minutes this
Image
although there are some really inconsiderate drivers, Mr Cheetah decided to come up to us
Image
he turned around and we followed
Image
and what heppened next was a first for me CIT (cheetah in tree)
Image
Image
Image
Image
after jumping down the tree we followed him up the road until some impatient person drove between myself and the cheetah causing it to run into the bush.
A few seconds later it came out of the bush to give us one last look (i didnot manage to capture the look), as if to say until we meet again, and walked infront of us into the opposite bush and dissappeared.
Image

Thanks for a lovely 25 minutes Mr Cheetah......
