KTP has given me some questions of my own.

There were lots of juv PCGs, however, not all of them were the same (I don't think)

I know that this is a long list, but I was very proud of myself for managing to ID the Familiar and Ant-eating Chat, a Marico Flycatcher, a Green Winged Ptyllia, a Violet Cheeked and Black faced Waxbill and a Karoo Scrub Robin, so I am definitely improving.

Appreciate any help you can give me.

Identification Help - Raptors

Unread post by Great Dane » Thu Sep 06, 2012 2:01 pm

A 'few' from southern KTP early March 12. At least I know the Martial Eagle which we saw a lot (incl Juveniles), but these brown ones

1) Guessing Juv. Goshawk. Was big-ish so if Goshawk I guess Southern Pale Chanting. Steppe Buzzard also crossed my mind. The only photo I took.

Many thanks for any help.

Good Evening Great Dane.

Here's my 2 cents worth towards your Raptors:
1. Defiantly Juv SPCG. Light eye and the starting of the orange cere. Streaking on Chest and no feathers on Tarsi.
Hope that helps somewhat....
Stiffneck on the loose.....
Latest Lifer:= Lesser Crested Tern; Rufous Winged Cisticola.

Back from a months travel that included a short KTP visit beginning October. Besides my first photos of Lanner Falcon, Pygmy Falcon and Brown Snake Eagle we came across this big grey-ish bird that I can't place. Saw a number of Goshawks in-between juvenile and adult feathers, but this one doesn't seem to fit that bill with the white brow:?

HI Great Dane

My best guess would be Pale Chanting Goshawk
But then I have been known to be wrong
