Unsure of the precise name ... "Sungazer" ?
KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

Yeah me
See OWN i don't have reptile book (yet) and i went through my grans one at SAbie Park in December and saw that little critter and I'm so impressed with my memory now I just got the second part wrong with the first guess and had to google armadillo lizzard it cause there was no way for me to drive to the Kruger to check the book out for an answer...

Ok, so what does a giant plated lizzard do when threatened? :hmz:

Excellent memory there, Heksie! Better be careful what I say in future, for you may remember it a decade or two hence, and then of course remind me of it.

Okay, let me see how I can get the second part wrong on the first guess and the first part right on the second. :hmz:

Oyyyyyyyyy.

Okay, giant plated lizards, at the first sign of danger, tend to wedge themselves tightly between cracks in the rocks, where they are difficult to dislodge.

I agree with OWN on this one, I'll just add my 2 cents worth. When threatened or to avoid the hot desert sun, they will also retreat into the underground burrows and nests of other animals.

And then, if you try and grab the lizard by the tail, it can allow the tail to be dislodged so that it can escape. The tail can regenerate over time.

And then they inflate themselves with air to prevent being removed from the rock crack?
