Yes, I have the bird book out and have been trying in vain to narrow it down but it was a BIG bird of some kind. Got a reasonable look as it climbed out of the water and stood up next to trough BUT just not clear enough to tell :? it stayed right in the water for some time.....

Agree with hyena. Have seen a hyena coming to the satara trough at night often lately.

Is it true that the darker the spots the older the giraffe is?

I agree that it looks most like the hind leg of a hyena

The coloration darkens with age I have been told  , it has also got to do with the species some have lighter or darker spots. :D

I've been pondering about this camshot save by kyknetta yesterday.
There is a critter in the shade on the side of the waterhole facing the
cam. I didn't spot it straight away, so maybe others didn't either.
But to me it doesn't look like another BBJ, but more like a brownie.

What do you guys and gals think?

Looks like the BBJ clan.....but I am not sure...

One of the animals is definitely a BBJ. I can see how the animal that is partly in the sunlight is a little confusing. However, I think that BBJ is again the most likely ID.
Back from beautiful Botswana - a long time to wait, but KNP and KTP planned for 2016!
