Hi DB,

Look for Wagtail, Pipit, Longclaw in the red section of the list - 4th from bottom. Took me a while the first time I looked also

Identification Help - General Birds

Unread postby Jay Knight » Tue Jul 12, 2011 5:49 pm

Hi Guys

I am wondering if any of you can help me out with a few ID's as i am a complete novice. I am just about to do a full trip report but needed to confirm a few birds before i do so. I have about 12 so i will do them a few at a time so not to bombard you. Most of them are in Kruger but a few are outside. Many thanks in advance for any help! :D

No2 - This one was taken at KZN Wildlife INJISUTHI also in the Drakensburg. The bird was on the floor in the lower ground before the foothills of the Mountains. I reckon it might be a Juvenile yellow throated Longclaw but Im probably wrong?

I'd say:

#2 long claw is also correct: juvenile Cape long claw

BB - nobody has answered you? I know it as Orange Throated Longclaw.
Saw this one 7 Aug '11 at Rietvlei. (not SANpark)

Don't think anyone knows Bobbi.

Which Rietvlei? Nice pic.

BBapt, sorry. Rietvlei is situated near & east of Centurion, Pretoria. Some of the earlier postings also refer to Rietvlei (Nature Reserve) so I assumed ..........
If you are near and want to take some photos of LC's there are plenty!!!!!!

I have been there Bobbi, but there is also one in the Cape near Milnerton, where I am sure they can also be seen.

Before I say where we saw this bird, I would just like to get your gut feel on it. Did see it two weekends ago.
