Great topic buffalo_soldier. I would like to add to it but oh my word I have so many special photos from many special sightings. Most of these have been posted in my Trip Reports.
But if you don't mind maybe I can share a very special sighting ( to me at least) from our recent trip to Namibia..but for all of you understand how special it was I will have to post more than one photo.

For a long time now I had wanted to visit the Wild Horses at Aus. I eventually got my wish but my first sighting of the horses was really boring...2 horses under a distant tree in very bad light.
But things took a turn for the better when they decided to walk to the waterhole.

Image

and then some action

Image

The scenery came alive with the setting sun..

Image

Eventually as we know all good things come to an end and we had to leave the horses and drive back to camp.

The rising moon in front of us

Image

and the setting sun behind us

Image

was pure magic and the memory will stay with me for a very long time. And back at camp..a final photo of the moon.......

Christmas in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in December 2007 was truely special and we enjoyed every minute of it!

Apart from many exciting wildlife sightings, excellent birdwatching and adventurous weather (one second sunny clear blue Kgalagadi skies with fluffy white clouds - the next second it started raining buckets and we experienced the worst thunderstorm & lighting we`ve ever witnessed in our lives), we enjoyed an amazing Kalahari landscape with beautiful spring flowers everywhere on the plains/pans and all the way up the red dunes! It was magical!

So this pic of the lonely wildebeest in a sea of flowers in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park will always keep remembering us of the beauty of the Kalahari and it is our PHOTO NUMBER ONE!

Sorry - 2 pics for me - many of you will have seen this by now ( its even my avatar) but we sat with the cubs and moms at Marie se Gat for about an hour last November and this little guy made eye contact with me from far away , walked right up to the car and sat down - all the time gazing right into my eyes - I couldn't look away ......

Below is my favorite pic. Profound moment early morning on the s100 by Satara. I thought about this stork sitting on this branch. It lives yet cannot contemplate the fact that it lives. And us people are self centred. We constantly evaluating our self worth according to a certain standard. Our self esteem varies according to how we judge ourselves.

Look at this beautiful stork in a beautiful world. Absolutely no judgement and perfectly happy
Made me think the solution to my life is becoming self forgetful.

I have absolutely no idea why it has taken me so long to get to this thread, despite B.S. sending me a P.M.

There are some amazing pics in this thread. Well done to and thanks to all who have contributed.

This is not actually my photo as my wife takes all the photos and I do video. Joan caught this Goliath Heron just as she ( the Heron) surfaced after having gone fishing at Lake Panic. I just love the look of shock and surprise on the fishes face and eyes.

June 2011 - N'watimhiri water hole.
She was stalking a warthog, unfortunately we could not get a pic of her cub.

Really beautiful photos and a super thread.

After viewing this thread many times and thinking about my pic number one, it became clear that I have two:

This photo was taken in December 2009 on the H3 between Malelane and Skukuza:

Image

This was taken in July 2011 on the H14 between Phalaborwa and Mopani:
