About 100,000,000 to 300,000,000 years ago a massive Supercontinent broke up to form new landmasses of which Africa is one.
During the following millions of years erosion, depositing of sediments, tectonic arching, etc formed the geological profile of the land as we know it today together with all it's riches.

How was this Super Continent called?

Thanks Michel. :D

Pangaea was on my mind, but didn't seem to fit your well-thought-out description.
