Just seen an article on MZNP in the April 2010 Getaway Magazine. It describes the Umngeni Loop as a tough, grade 4 4x4 trail which demands a 4x4 with low range. Getaway goes on to say - for the older trails, high clearance and diff-lock are needed.

@NickyG - I think an OME suspension is definitely needed on your Spark!

Re: Is a 4x2 vehicle suited for the 4x4 trails?

Good morning,

I have just purchased a VW Tiguan 1.4 TSI 118kw 4 Motion (ie 4x4). Would it, in your opinion, be able to handle the 4x4 routes of Mountain Zebra?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Kind regards,

@ebeneke, I don't know if you've been to the Park yet or not, but I can tell you that you should be fine on all the 4x4 routes except the Pienaars' Pass, which is a very challenging drive in general and not recommended to beginners.

@Patto, the Sonnenrust and Juriesdam trails are fairly easy drives, while the Umgeni is more challenging. However, your Tiguan is ostensibly a 4x4, so I don't envisage you having problems with any of them.
