League of nations if you ask me! :yaya:

My mother was Afrikaans, my father was English (born in Leichestershire) and I married a Jew (learnt Hebrew & some Yiddish)! Studied German, Latin (helps to understand Italian) & Dutch at varsity. Understand some Sesotho.

There you have it!

I am English speaking and my SO is Afrikaans speaking. I can speak Afrikaans, but give me a few beers and watch me struggle with the accent. I think I am speaking perfect Afrikaans but when my SO starts smiling at me, then I know the rooi neck is coming through. :P

DB, I know the border accent well. I can tell who comes from the EC when they start speaking. eg. East London sounds like "Slunin". :?:

Hi all,
I am German, so: I speak German. Was raised up in Canada, so I speak English. Love French language a lot - but forgot a little bit during past years

I am Dutch, so we speak a handfull of languages. We have to, apart from SA, there's just a few islands in the world where people understand dutch. And I have learned Afrikaans, which is absolute great  Don't know any language in the world what make poems so great to read as in Afrikaans. Geniet my gate uit

I'm Afrikaans, but don't speak it properly as I spend my days speaking English at work and all the textbooks I used for my studies were English. From a business point of view therefore, I can't express myself in my home language. It is only when I am on leave and when I spend more time with my family that I start feeling comfortable with Afrikaans again.

English speaking. When I am with my Dad, we speak in Lancashire slang, but in the parks I get a rare opportunity to speak Afrikaans, but those who know me walk away, and I haven't worked out why yet.
