Joberg to Mapungwabe..stopover advice

Unread post by john n poppy » Fri May 12, 2017 8:10 am

Hi All,

I am currently planning my 2018 Kruger trip...North to South and would like to have a relaxing few days somewhere between joberg and Mapungwabe (that we hope to visit).

If you have any ideas, areas or places please let me know or drop me a PM.

Thank you

Hi john n poppy,
Why not Marakele NP? I've never been there but plan on doing so in the near future. :)

You might get me out of the bush, but you won't get the bush out of me, it's deep in my heart

Tlopi camp at Marakele is very comfortable and situated on a lovely dam surrounded by stunning mountains. It's an excellent stopover en route to Mapungubwe.

I agree - Marakele is worth visiting. Tlopi permanent tents on the dam are great.

Not much else between Joburg and Mapungubwe. You can do Joburg to Mapungubwe in one day if you need to.

John, you might want to look at the Haenertsburg / Magoebaskloof area. It is not too far out of your way.

There are places in the Soutpansberg which cater for birding, that's near Louis Trichard/Makhado, and more than half way to Mapungubwe. I'd love to spend time in that area, it's very pretty and lots of birding.
