Travel: Durban - Kruger; Through Swaziland

Unread post by chop13 » Tue Feb 14, 2017 7:57 pm

Hey folks,

Super excited that I'll be travelling to Kruger in September. I'll be travelling from Durban, very much want to travel through Swaziland; I know this will save a ton of time.
I'm not super concerned about safety. What I'm interested in is any suggested routes? What will borders be like? What's the earliest and latest time I can go through border areas? I'm also travelling in a hired car; will this present any kind of problem?

Any other tips or tricks to make it as quick and painless as possible would be much appreciated.

Many thanks!

I cannot comment on routes as I have never travelled that way. Where are you staying on your first night? Just make sure you have sufficient time to get to camp after entering the Park.

Ito the hire car, you should make very sure with the rental agency that you have all the correct papers etc if any is needed. You should also inform them that you will be leaving SA borders - I know from my own personal vehicle insurance that my insurance will lapse if I leave SA without notifying my insurance company. Make very sure with your rental company re their terms and conditions for leaving SA.

I will also go back in Sept - have fun!

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for the advice already. The link has great info, thanks.
Yup, I'll have plenty of time. The plan so far is to leave Durban at 4, the Lavumisa border opens at 8. Reach Managa border by 10:30, ans should reach Crocodile bridge gate by Lunch time. My first few nights are in Satara, so even if I'm significantly held up along the way, I should reach Satara by 6.

Here's a link to Google Maps on the route I plan to take:

Thanks guys!
