WendyA's Anti Poaching Initiative

Unread post by barryels » Mon Jan 11, 2016 2:44 pm

During March 2015, WendyA (a forum member) decided to do something to help support the SANParks Anti poaching initiative.

She decided to bake cookies, cakes and other goodies to raise funds for anti poaching.

Although most of the funds raised thus far derived from sales, any donations are also welcome.

Please contact WendyA or any one of the SANParks Honorary Rangers: Virtual Region Here via PM for the banking details.

Donations can also be effected through the link Here

Please use the following reference when donations are made: VHR followed by your name and BHC at the back.

Here is the latest information on the project.

Thanks Barry!

It has been an amazing year and I'm absolutely thrilled at the money raised through my baking initiative so far!

As some of you know, at the cricket last year, I decided to bake for the year (Cricket 2015 to Cricket 2016) to raise funds for anti poaching. I set a target of R10,000.

I have been selling cookies and cakes at work, as well as at some of the Gauteng Forum meets. Colleagues were generous last year, donating several hundred rand; a few of them paid me to bake cakes for them as well. One colleague asked me to bake a birthday cake for her daughter who loved the colour pink and a character called Polly Pocket ... I really didn't know where to start!

I was chuffed at the end product though which raised a further R500!

and so was Olivia!

At the beginning of January R9,309 had been raised. I sent an email out to all the staff at work advising them of the total raised to date and of the goodies that were in my office for sale that week. The High Commissioner immediately replied saying she'd put a further R700 in the pot to bring me up to my R10,000 target! The next day I sent a further email out to staff advising them of the generous donation and that R285 had been raised the day before so the total in the anti-poaching pot now equated to R10,294.

The Director of the Department for International Development replied saying he'd also donate R700 and even add a further R6 to get the total raised up to a nice R11,000!!!

The rest of that week saw an additional R507 put in the pot, and a couple of friends donated R300 between them bringing the new total at the end of the first week of January R11,807.

The following week another colleague donated R200 and with the week's takings of R1,766 the total raised had reached R13,773.

The week after R1,197 worth of baked goods were sold. A further R590 was added to the anti-poaching pot thanks to the UK Trade and Industry Commissioner who, before returning to the UK, had a sale of DVDs he didn't want to take with and passed the takings to me to add to the anti poaching pot! One of the Political Counsellors who was also returning to the UK asked that R520 which was to go towards her leaving present was added to the pot as well. The total raised now amounted to R16,080!

The next three weeks saw a further R1,187 raised. I was working in Cape Town during the week of 08 February and as I had no electricity on the afternoon of Saturday the 6th, I couldn't bake and pass goodies to a colleague to take into work that week as planned. Still, this brought the total raised to R17,267 with two weeks to go before departing for Kruger!

I haven't yet added up the takings from last week and have one more week left to raise funds at work. Then of course, there will be the baked goods table at the cricket weekend where I hope loads more will be collected!

Looking forward to seeing you all at the cricket!

Wendy

What a fantastic initiative Wendy and as a baker myself, I understand the hours of hard work that must have gone into all your baking.

That is just ridiculously awesome!!! Image Image
At the end of it all you don't want to go into the grave peacefully and quietly in well preserved body... You want to go sort off skidding in sideways, full of bruises and scratches saying: "Man what a ride!!!"
